If someone would have told me 5 years ago that I would have moved 3500 miles across the country to teach in bush Alaska, I would have said they were crazy. So much has changed in the past few weeks, and every day has been so exciting!
I've moved from small town Pennsylvania to Port Heiden, Alaska. Port Heiden is a small village located about 430 miles south of Anchorage on the Alaskan peninsula. The village has a population of about 100, and my class has about 7 students.
So, how did I get here? I was checking my university email and saw one for a school in Alaska. I contemplated a moment, and asked Richard, my boyfriend, what he thought about it, and if he thought I should see if the position was still open. We both agreed, what the heck, so I sent a quick email.
That night I got a call from the superintendent himself! He told me a little about teaching in Alaska, and talked a little about my experience as a teacher. By the end of the week I had landed an interview and on Monday I accepted the job!
Then, I had only about 10 days to pack up my life and move across the country! This blog is my story.
