Being away from home during Thanksgiving is strange. No helping make pie, no baking rolls, no listening to mom yell at everyone because she is stressed (sorry mom!)
Since several of the teachers would be leaving for actual Thanksgiving, we decided to hold "Friendsgiving" on Sunday. Everyone contributed a dish and we all ate at Kasie's house. It was a lot of fun, and of course the food was delicious.
Instead of turkey, we had a moose roast that Kasie cooked with bacon and lots of garlic- YUM! There was also mashed potatoes, corn casserole, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, stuffing, cranberry sauce, homemade rolls and Kasie's grandmothers cranberry Jello relish/sauce. (I need the recipe, stat!)
We also had shrimp, hummus, and crab dip as appetizers. I made pecan and Nantucket pies for dessert, and Julie made apple cake.
Food and fun was had by all. I'm so lucky to have great friends to spend time with!

Then on Wednesday/Thursday, all of the teachers except Sam and I (and Tim & Kari) flew out to have wonderful Thanksgiving adventures. I was feeling like I didn't know what to do with myself, but glad to have some time off to relax.
It turned out that the mom of one of my students invited us to join in their Thanksgiving.
Billie is an excellent cook and had tons of food! We had a smoked salmon cheese ball, spinach dip, and meat & cheese plate for appetizers.
Then for dinner there was salad (with REAL strawberries!!!), turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, green bean casserole, crab and beet salad, fruit salad, and creamy lemony fluff.
My favorites were the salmon dip, green bean casserole, and the beet dip. My only regret is that I didn't have room for second of everything :(
There were also lots of desserts: pecan pie, pumpkin crunch cake, white chocolate macadamia cookies, apple crumble pie, and PUMPKIN ROLL!
My FAVORITE! I was full even when I went to bed at 11pm
Billie, I can't thank you enough for inviting me into your home and allowing me to share in the celebrations! :)
