What an adventure this weekend was!
Kasie, Kirsten, Julie, and I decided to get out and enjoy the sunshine by taking a Honda ride. We had recently gotten some snow, but the day was sunny and bright. We headed out towards the beach and had originally planned to ride south-ish towards the Old Village, but last minute we decided to head down to North River first, then ride back.
Well, we got to North River, and the tide was low enough to cross, so we decided to ride down the beach a bit to have a picnic. It was a nice ride, and the tide brought in a lot of rocks. It was hard to see if any floats had washed up because of the snow though. A nice ride, but cold.
We stopped not too far up the beach, and rode up the ridge to have a picnic. The view was great!

We ate down in that little gully off to the right. It was great because we were out of the wind. It was pretty cozy.
Delicious snacks were had! We had hot tea and cookies, and Kasie brought some yummy sandwiches. It was good to take a break and have some food.
After eating, we headed back down the beach to cross the river again. Except.....the tide looked a lot higher than it had. Evidently, we had gotten the times confused and the tide was higher now. Which made crossing North River impossible. So, that meant we had to find somewhere else to cross. With some excellent navigating by Kirsten, we traversed on the near side of the river and onto the tundra. It was really neat there because the tide occasionally gets pretty high and there were a lot of floats and bottles hiding among the pumice.
We rode along the river a shallow part we fished earlier in the season. We were hoping it would be iced over, but no such luck. Unfortunately, no one had worn waders, and we were not very keen on finding out how deep the river was in just boots.
We got ahold of some villagers with our radio, but were prepared to camp until low tide if we had to. I'll spare all the details, but making a fire in the tundra is hard! I need some practice!
Finally, a group of locals came and helped us cross. Thankfully, no one got swamped/stuck, and we made it back home okay, if a bit tired and sore.
Sunday was a lazy day. I slept in a while and then did some lesson plans. The rest of the day was bread baking (sourdough post coming up!), and lazy-ing about.
Only 17 days until Christmas Eve!!!!
